"We approached Kerry Ludlam at Dial a CFO to provide an experienced CFO to work through a short term handover with our Financial Controller of 20 years and to continue in the role.  We had worked with Kerry previously which gave us confidence that he would find the right person for us.

We met with Kerry and Tony (Principal at Dial a CFO) to discuss what was required by way of deliverables which they subsequently documented and we signed off on.  Paul Yallop was presented as an experienced CFO that could fulfil the brief, we interviewed Paul and he started 5 working days after our first meeting with Kerry and Tony for an initial 3 month engagement.

The initial brief was to complete four sets of year end financial statements and tax returns (for our two companies) while running the small finance team.  Our requirements expanded within a very short timeframe to a broader remit of improving trading performance, freeing up liquidity to repay debt by revitalizing the debt collection process, restoring the confidence of our bankers in our business and addressing a number of complex tax issues.

What became apparent upon Paul starting was that there were a significant number of unorthodox accounting practices, a lack of disclosure of the true financial position of the company and a need for much improved governance.  Paul set about completing the required remedial work in a professional and timely fashion.  We were kept fully briefed and Paul established a very good rapport with our bank, lawyers, shareholders and external CA firm as well as our staff.  Kerry acted as project lead in support of Paul , operating in a Quality Assurance role and maintaining regular contact with us.  Kerry's previous involvement with our business and considerable knowledge of the industry provided context and a valuable escalation point in the event that we needed it.

His initial responsibility was to ensure a smooth transition of business systems so that Auckland Transport (the new CCO responsible for all Auckland region transport matters post 1 November) could operate effectively on day 1.

This required gaining an intimate understanding of legacy systems, developing an integration plan, and managing a program of work which ensured that data, process, and people resource were deployed effectively to achieve the above.
